Kitchen Design Trends: Countertops
When you make the decision to remodel your kitchen, it is likely one of the biggest remodeling projects you will pursue. A kitchen remodeling project can range from $25,000 – $250,000, depending on the level of cabinetry, finishes, and materials you choose. In part two of this three part series, Parker Design Build Remodel shares our experience, tips, and insight to help you create the kitchen of your dreams and determine which countertops are the best product for your kitchen remodel.
Once you’ve decided to update your kitchen, the overall kitchen design will influence other design choices. So, after you’ve selected cabinetry, you will need to find the perfect countertop surface to complement the way you will live in and use your kitchen. Since countertops come in a wide variety of colors, the design team at Parker Design Build Remodel can assist you with your selection.
How You Live
Selecting the right countertop has a lot to do with how you live and work in your kitchen. A large family that is sure to put the countertop through lots of wear and tear may opt for engineered stone or quartz since these products are easier to maintain. Red wine drinkers may want to steer clear of marble countertops since they may stain if not sealed properly. Thinking about how you will use your kitchen will help you select the right product for your home!
Product Types
There are new products coming to market every year. Over the past decade or so, granite countertops have continued to be a go-to product for durability, ease of maintenance, and resale value. Granite countertops are rich, vibrant, and the variation and beauty of natural stone are hard to beat. In recent years, though, quartz has quickly become a fan favorite because it has many of the qualities of granite without the need for sealing. Quartz colors are more consistent, and the product is built for long-lasting durability which will likely make it a strong product for years to come.
Concrete countertops are gaining popularity too and can be completely customized to provide a unique look. For more budget minded projects, laminate and solid surface countertops are still good options.
Mix & Match
When you decide to update your kitchen, you may be incorporating open space design or multiple work surfaces into the new kitchen layout. Many homeowners take these opportunities to select suitable countertop surfaces for different work areas, with typically no more than two surface types in an average layout. Perhaps the work surface near your cooktop is granite while the area near your prep area is butcher block. The design team at Parker Design Build Remodel can help you determine the best products for your needs and even assist with color selections.
