Kitchen Design Trends: Cabinetry

When you make the decision to remodel your kitchen, it is likely one of the biggest remodeling projects you will pursue. A kitchen remodeling project can range from $25,000 – $250,000, depending on the level of cabinetry, finishes, and materials you choose. In this three part series, Parker Design Build Remodel shares our experience, tips, and insight to help you create the kitchen of your dreams and determine which kitchen cabinets are the best fit for your home.

Cabinet Types

You will want to consider both quality and style when you select your kitchen cabinets. You will also want to consider the purpose of your kitchen. Is this a kitchen that will entertain a couple’s lifestyle and social gatherings or will it need to cater to a family with children and lots of wear and tear? Is the kitchen being updated for resale purposes or something you plan to live in for years to come? The answers to these questions will help you determine which of the four types of cabinets you want to consider. Your budget will also be a big factor. The types of cabinet grades typically available are:

Cabinet Trends & Colors

Most designers agree that white cabinetry is timeless. There are a variety of whites to choose from including bright white (which tends to lean more modern), to ivory white (which tends to lean more traditional), and everything in between. White kitchens have consistently been the top choice for consumers for years, and they are a great option if you’re thinking about resale value.

On the other hand, painted cabinets allow you to add color to your kitchen. Many homeowners opt for painted cabinets for the kitchen island, to compliment the rest of the kitchen. While color is great, be careful. Colored kitchens can be risky from a resale value. Gray color schemes and darker cabinets have been a fan favorite in recent years, but since they are trendy, they may not bode well for resale value, long-term.

Options

There are a variety of options that you can purchase to assist with drawer storage, décor, and organization. Some of the most common upgrades include a deep drawer near the stove for pots and pans, a tall pull out drawer near the stove for spices, and pull out shelving to help you see items that often get lost in the back of cabinets. The design team at Parker Design Build Remodel can assist you with these selections and help you create the kitchen of your dreams!
