4 Great Ideas for Your Home Office
Working from home is becoming more popular with the increase of people starting their own businesses, telecommuting, and working side jobs. If you work from home, you need an office that creates inspiration but allows you to focus. Consider the following ways you can build the office of your dreams from Parker Design | Build | Remodel:
Make Use of Space
Ideally, your home office would have a large bookcase or other space where you could store your paperwork, files, books, and other materials. Some office furniture incorporates hutches or pedestal cabinets. Built-ins are a fantastic way to add design to your home office, while creating exceptional storage space. Incorporating a table or desktop that can be raised or lowered allows you to stand while working, which is proven to relieve back pain and other ailments commonly associated with sitting at a desk for long periods.
Add a Nook
Your home office can and should be much more than a desk, computer, and revolving chair. You can turn almost any comfortable nook into your office and have the added luxury of relaxing in a cozy space whenever you need a break from work. Plan your home office around a deep, luxurious window seat. Place your desk under a skylight or upper windows to let in plenty of sunlight and natural warmth. Add splashes of color like bright cushions or charming knickknacks.
Make Your Desk Inspiring
If you spend most of the day at your desk, you probably stare at computer screens for hours. Not only is this unhealthy, it’s also boring. Give your eyes somewhere else to go so they can rest and you can refocus. This can be as simple as placing a large plant on the corner of your desk or using photographs or desk “toys” like stress balls. You can also make your computer chair unusual and more comfortable. Use sheepskin or moleskin covers, or use a nontraditional computer chair, like a wing chair, if you have the space. This will encourage you to use good posture, lean away from the computer, and refocus as needed.
Plan It Out
When designing your office, determine where your desk will be so that you can determine where your phone line needs to be wired. Make sure your Wi-Fi is easily accessible from the home office location or have it rewired at the time you plan to remodel. Want a TV in your office? Plan to have the room wired for your audio/visual needs. Lighting should be bright, both natural and artificial. When remodeling, make sure that all fixtures provide the best lighting possible.
