Adding a 2 Story Home Addition in Towson
This family in Towson was outgrowing their current home and needed more living space. When they explored adding a 2 story home addition, they realized that the additional space could double their square footage and actually be less expensive than moving to a larger home. Parker also made some great suggestions, as part of the design process that would provide them some major upgrades to accommodate their growing family’s needs.
The 2 story home addition, designed by Parker, allowed them to double the square footage add a large new kitchen, and a second larger open living room. Built-ins and design elements would also enhance they way they lived in the home.

The Home Addition Client Experience
This family loved living in Towson, but they had been outgrowing their home which was originally built in the 1950s. They were trying to decide between selling the home or renovating the home . They liked the area and didn’t want to move, so they ultimately decided to stay and renovate.
Expanding the Footprint – 2 Story Home Addition
The original home had a footprint of 1100 square feet, so as the family grew, the home needed to grow too! Parker’s design team envisioned the perfect concept! By expanding the footprint, they were able to virtually double the size of the home with a rear home addition. The new space in the home addition would include a large modern kitchen and a spacious living area on the first floor. On the second floor, a large master bedroom and ensuite bath would really change the way they lived. A covered porch was also added to the plans so they could have more outdoor living space.
Modern Updates
As you would expect, any home that is more than 25+ years old, is probably going to require some modern updates. For this home, some of the updates were out of convenience, while others were required to upgrade the mechanicals and comply with code and safety protocols. Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC were all upgraded as part of this project.
Renovating the Existing Space Too
When considering their home addition, Parker suggested renovating the existing space too. Every homeowner has certain elements they want to include in their dream renovation project. For this homeowner, a mudroom cubby built-in would neatly organize boots and coats while a a sliding barn door, lighting fixtures added some much needed design updates. The new modern kitchen and large open living area allowed them to segregate the kids from teh adults for entertaining or a place to enjoy the whole family, without feeling cramped. Parker’s design team provided all of this and more!
Today, the entire family enjoys their new living space, but the homeowner says, “This home addition changed the way we live. We spend most of our time in the new kitchen and living area. Small elements that Parker suggested – like the mudroom built-ins – really make a difference in our life and make the home less cluttered.”
If you are considering whether to move or stay in your home, a home addition could be the best answer. It may allow you to enjoy your existing home in a whole new way.
